Upgrading from Vista home premium installed by HP, forces the Ultimate
upgrade to be a re-install. Will this re-install effect the wireless and
wired connections? What else should I be aware of?

It is quite possible it will affect wired and wireless connections, as well
as other Hardware Drivers(Graphics, etc).
USB wired internet connection will be OK once you reinstall your ISP's
software CD, and hook it all up per their instructions(username, password,
etc).

Ethernet connection: you will have to get the Drivers for it from HP's or
the Motherboard's website.
Other hardware, do the above, or go to the Hardware Manufactuter's website
to get latest Drivers.

Also, you will loose all Data, and any Programs that you have installed
during clean install.

You will need to install any drivers not provided by the Ultimate dvd.
Download the same drivers you are currently using in VHP and put the
downloads on intermediate storage (cd, flash drive, other partition or hard
drive, etc.) After the installation of Vista check the device manager and
use the downloaded drivers wherever needed. If the dvd does not have the
needed NIC driver you will not have the internet access to get the drivers
after the fact.
