I play on line video games and well it used to have no problem, but now my
system keeps crashing and when I look in the event viewer under system I get
the following error. Dcom- Event D:10010
Description: The server{a9e69610-b8od-11d0-b9b9-00a0c922e750} did not
register with DCOM within the required timeout.

When computer crashes the screen just goes blue. This seems to be a new
problem for I have been playing this game online for awhile. I have a Dell
xps gen 3, with dual 3.4 GHz Cpu, 1Gig of ddr 4200 ram, sata drive, win xp
pro, x800se video card. Anyway every time this happens this event is listen
in the even viewer. does anyone know what is going on and how to fix this
problem.

Just a guess here but it sounds like network congestion. The error
message seems to indicate that expected info from the game server is not
reaching your machine.

I would go for this, but it now happens everytime I play the game. Where it
never did this before. And for it to crash my computer to the point all I
have is a blank blue screen, I dont think that is the true issue here. But
thank you for writing. Do you or anyone else have any ideas

Does this only happen with the one game or with all online games? What
is the name of the game that gives you the problem? Do you have
problems with other online activities? Do you have problems with other
cpu/graphics-intensive games offline?

No, Its only with this one Game and its the only game I play. Its Battlefield
2. It would work ok for awhile then Just lock up and then after the lock up
the screen would turn blue and I have to reboot. And every time the only
Error I see in the Viewer is the DCOM one. So what do you think.

If this is the only game you play, then your video card may be
overheating. I'm not familiar with the "x800se" video card. Is it an
AGP or PCI-E card with its own fan? Try playing with the computer case
open and observe the fan. You can also - carefully, without touching
anything - put your hand in the case to see if things feel too hot.

If you think this is a network problem, swap out your network card for a
known-working one. That is a fairly cheap test since you can get a new
NIC for under $20usd if you don't have an extra one lying around.

Since the game worked fine before, have you changed the video drivers
and/or installed a game patch since that time? If not, then it sounds
like a hardware issue.

The Video Card does have its own fan. The 800se is a Ati Card. I Think its a
PCI E, how would I tell. Its in a slot at the top of the row with the PCI
slots but its black. I know more board supports this and is a Sata board. No
I dont think its a network problem. I have new modem and comcast running at
about 3.8 MB download, it fly's. IF its the video driver and I go to the
manufacture for the update, and it is what causes my problem then what driver
would you recommend I use. I have the latest patch for the game.

Yes, you have a PCI-E card. If you have the latest Catalyst drivers, did
you recently upgrade to them? If the game worked on the old drivers,
roll back to them:
How to Roll Back a Device Driver - http://tinyurl.com/86yb6

If rolling back the drivers does not help, then the card itself may be
faulty. In that case, if this is a new computer under warranty, contact
the mftr.'s tech support.

I agree with you on the driver. Last night I pulled the computer apart and
cleaned off all the dust that had accumulated on the Video card fan, as well
as the other four fans on the case. I tried to roll backthe driver and it
told me there was no driver saved and there for I could not do it. Though I
see other drivers in the list. I think I had this problem in the past with
the catylist driver. It said they fixed the issue but I tend to wonder. For
now im going to see if it does it anymore after the cleaning in case i did.
But tell me isnt the DCOM something to do with network type of issue.

I'm not sure the error message has anything to do with the game
crashing, but it might. I Googled for "Dcom- Event ID:10010" and one of
the resulting links indicates this might be tied to one of the latest
MS updates. See here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909444

If you can connect the occurrence in Event Viewer to last Tuesday's
patches, then you may have the cause of the DCOM error. Since the error
is connected with a security update, you may want to call MS as
follows:

"Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from
Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no
charge for support calls that are associated with security updates."

I would look for user/tech support forums on the game's website to see
if there are known issues with Catalyst drivers and what people have
done about it.
