I recently transferred outlook files from one computer to the other, but
somehow "missed" and got the sent and deleted items into outlook, but some
are now sitting on google desktop. Don't know how! Trying to move over the
calendar and the contacts (from google desktop--deleted off other computer)
but they are in .dbx files. tried to import them into both outlook and
outlook express, but they only want .pst files. have the contacts on a thumb
drive, so can restore from that, but the missing calendar is my biggest
concern. any ideas? greatly appreciated--

dbx-files are from Outlook Express and Outlook Express doesn't hold any
calendar information as OE simply doesn't support calendering. To recover OE
data from backup see;
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=270670

As for Outlook; if you didn't backup the pst-file you're out of luck.
Otherwise see;

Note that this is an Microsoft Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.

Thanks for the note. We originally used Outlook, not express, so am trying a
little of EVERYTHING. have you ever heard of google desktop "hijacking"
programs? I know when I originally moved everything from one computer to the
next, everything was originally on there. Now, i can see some stuff on
google desktop that is not on outlook.

another thing to ask: contacts. when i open up outlook, it does not have
any of my contacts there....but when i go to type in an email, it autofills
with info FROM my contacts.......so, it is like they are there, somewhere,
just not sure where. i did do the process of seeing if they are hidden
files, etc., but they are not.

I'm not sure what you did here so it is hard to tell. Sounds like Google is
using an old index.

Transfering directly from Outlook to OE while switching PCs is not possible.
You must use import in OE on the old comp first and transfer the dbx-files
or install Outlook on the new PC as well and transfer the pst-file.

Autosuggest works from a cache (nk2-file) of addresses you've used before
and not from the Contacts folder.

Hi. Guess that is new to me...thought it always pulled from the contacts.
That is ok...I have that on a thumb drive, so I can redo the address book,
but the calendar is now my big quandry. I will answer that on the other
email. Thanks again for your help!

That is the million dollar question--what in the HECK did we do! We
transferred from her laptop (outlook) and imported PST files, etc., for her
inbox, outbox, deleted items, sent items, calendar, and contacts. THEY WERE
THERE. Then, she called me, said that she is having a hard time finding her
old emails, so I can in and looked and it was gone. Then, we did a .pst
search on her hard drive and couldn't find them--but eventually found them in
her deleted items folder. I know her calendar used to be there--and her
contacts too--but now they are gone. We did find all these DBX files on
google desktop, but she doesn't use google desktop. We do not use Outlook
Express--just thru my searching did I find that .dbx files are associated
with Express--but she doesn't use Express. I don't know why it would save
anythiing as a .dbx file for a calendar for Express of Express doesn't
support a calendar! AHHHH!!!! I AM SO OUT OF MY LEAGUE!

Well lets just forget about the dbx-files in this issue for a while.

You've transfered the pst-file? This was not an export, right? Than take a
clean sheet approach and don't do any importing at all; this probably caused
you to be in this mess in the first place. Start with a new mail profile and
connect to the transfered pst-file instead by File-> Open-> Outlook Data
File

For details see;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

Thank you for your continued help.

The issue that I now face is that we don't have the calendar on a file to
backup/import from. It is just POOF, gone. The only thing I have to work
with is a .dbx file.

I am thinking that unless I can somehow access that .dbx file--we will have
to recreate EVERYTHING....

thoughts?

As we've said a couple of times already dbx-file never could have contained
calendar items since they from OE which doesn't support calendar items. In
you didn't back up the pst-file you are out of luck.
