.dbx files wont import into Outlook Express

B

Brayski

I Upgraded my computers OS from WinMe to WinXP...

Person that upgaded system saved my .dbx emails from
Outlook express in a folder on my hard drive....

I set up OE with 2 identities...

When I go to import, this is what the menu looks
like:"( )" indicates clickable options

( )Import from an OE6 Identity
Identity A
Identity B (mine)

( ) Import from an OE6 store directory

Import Options
( ) Only import mail that was downloaded or created in
OE6. If you are importing mail into OE4 this option can
be used to avoid getting duplicate messages.

I have tried the following

1) clicking on the first option "( )Import from an OE6
Identity" and then pointing to the folder where the .dbx
files are located. it then says to select the folders
that I would like to import into OE...the problem is the
folders that I am trying to import are not listed...it
list the basic folders such as Inbox, Drafts, Sent,
Outbox and deleted items....I am looking for leads, WEB,
confirmations,etc.

2) clicking on "( ) Import from an OE6 store directory"
I get the same choices as above. After doing it over and
over I also received a message that said "The specified
message store could not be opened. It may be in use by
OE....No messages can be found in this folder or another
application is running that has the required files open.
Please select another folder or try closing applications
that may have files open".....I tried closing the app's
and still nothing. I'm lost...I have even removed the
identity and started again and still nothing. I NEED
SOME HELP "-)

3)I have copied the backup .dbx files and placed them in
applicationdata/identities/outlook express...where my
current email folders are listed but they still wont
import. PLEASE HELP...I'M LOOKING RIGHT AT THE .DBX
FILES BUT I CAN'T GET THEM IMPORTED INTO OUTLOOK EXPRESS.

Hi -

This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program, despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

A good website for information on OE is:
http://www.tomsterdam.com/
