OE6-- Importing Saved .dbx

I didn't see a group for Outlook Express, so I figured this would be the best
place...

I just dumped my last computer and compacted all of my emails. I then saved
all of the .dbx files. When I tried to import them into my OE6 (same as the
other computer), it keeps telling me "The specified message store could not
be opened. It may be in use by Outlook Express." The funny thing is, the
error title is "Import from OE5." It never gives an OE5 option... only 4 &
6. And, yes, I am 101% sure that both the previous and current versions are
OE6.

There is only an "Ok" option which then pops an error window titled "Import
Messages" and says "No message can be found in this folder or another
applicatino is running that has the required files open. Please select
another folder or try closing applicatinos that may have files open."

How can I do that if I'm working in OE?? I've tried NUMEROUS ways...
importing from OE6 identity, store, and even creating a second identity to
try to keep the other closed. I tried in Outlook, but it won't recognize the
..dbx files.

I know this is possible... I have some very important emails and Hx that I
need to have handy. Any tips??? Thanks!

Actually, no - OE is a totally separate program, and is part of IE. The
groups are hard to find - for OE6, try

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

And www.insideoe.com is a great OE resouce.

General note - if you'd just backed up your OE store folder in its entirety
you could have copied it to your new PC in the location of your choice, set
up your accounts in OE, and then used tools | options | maintenance, store
folder, to point it at the files you wished.
