Daylight savings caused appointment times to change

I had checked "adjust for daylight saving time" in
Calendar Options / Time Zone. I believe this was the
default. Problem: all appointments I entered before the
change to DST were moved FORWARD one hour.

So I unchecked this option, and the appointments were
moved BACK correctly. However, this also set my clock
back one hour. I've now corrected the clock. But I'm
concerned that when DST goes off in the autumn, the clock
won't change automatically.

Can anyone help me understand what is happening?

BTW, the same effect occurs if you check/uncheck

the "automatically adjust for DST" on the clock on the
task bar. So in order to prevent calendar appointments
from getting shifted, one has to MANUALLY change the time
at spring/fall DST.
