I saved my database on a zip disk before uninstalling Windows 98 and installing Windows XP. Each time I try to open it through Explorer an .ldb file pops up named "Access.lockfile.9"

Copy the database back onto to the hard disk, and try access it from
there. Ensure you have full permissions in the folder where you put it.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Rob- Thanks for your prompt reply. Regrettably this did not work. I have discovered several of my other databases on my hard disk also won't open. Permissions are fine. I tried changing the compatability to Win 98 but this also did not work.

Windows XP does not open databases and Windows XP vs.
Windows 98 is not an issue. The issue is what software
APPLICATION was used to create the database. MS EXCEL is a
spreadsheet, but it can open some databases. MS ACCESS is a
database program and can open many database programs. MS
WORKS has a limited database and won't open ACCESS
databases.

Was the data compressed to go on the ZIP disk and what
program was used to do that can also be an issue.

Thanks for answering me, Jim
The database was created in an access 2000 programme.
I saved it onto a zip disk via Iomega
I installed Windows XP and then I installed Iomega, along with Office 2000 again, so the same programme is trying to open the one I saved onto the zip disk
Everything appears to be there as far as I can tell. Does Iomega open this disk
When I click 'open', Access opens and the programme tries to open then closes again

I would appreciate some more feedback......

Yes, I think you'll need to use the "extraction" program
from Iomega to uncompress the zipped file and then use
Access to read the file.

I could be wrong about the file being compressed on the zip
disk since you say that the Access program opens and then
closes. You might try a repair of the Access program if
there isn't an extraction program with the zip disk.

That's about all I can help, good luck. One last thought,
try an Office/Access newsgroup and check the Iomega website
too. http://www.iomega.com/software/ and you'll find
this

Thank you Jim

But that didn't work either. Any more suggestions? Or should I get a tech in
