Data recovery

I recently had a damaged hard drive and had to relace
it. Most of the data on the old drive is intact but it
wouldn't boot up. Now having hooked it up as a second
drive to retrieve the data, I cannot access the folders
that were private on the old system. Is there any way of
accessing these precious files?

Must be NTFS file system and not FAT 32.
Windows XP Pro...Disable Simple File sharing
Home..you need to be in Safe Mode
