data recovery on a formated Hard drive

i just reimage i windows 2000 (was un upgrade from 98) with a new os windows
xp. after this i realised that there was one directory i didnt backup. is
there i way to get back to this data and retrive it without. sending the hd
to a data recovery place. i am currently try a soft ware "recover it all" so
far no luck
