Data Execution Prevention warning

R

Robert M Jones

Every now and again as I log on to my user account in XP Home, I get a
"Data Execution Prevention" warning relating to Windows Explorer which
when I close it, followed by a Windows Explorer message "Windows
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". Everything then
proceeds as normal.

I run regular AV and antispyware scans, using NAV, Counterspy, Ad-Aware
and Spybot as well as the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Any advice about what might be causing this welcome.
Many thanks.

Have any toolbars installed? Try disabling Add-ons using the Manage Add-Ons
section in the Internet Explorer Properties. The Add-ons for IE also affect
Windows Explorer.

I have a google toolbar in both IE and Firefox. Last time I ran my
Counterspy it detected a spyware toolbar on IE and removed it - but I
have no evidence of that around now.
And the message is only occasional - I get it about once a week.
