Data Execution Prevention & Run Once Wrapper

Hans L

When I installed the latest firmware for MS IntelliPoint, a Data Execution
Prevention window opened, saying:

"To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.
Name: Run Once Wrapper
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation"

I closed the window, it came back one more time, I closed it again, and
then, IntelliPoint announced that it had successfully installed.

I run Autorun from Sysinternals, a program I really do not know exactly what
it does, and I found the following line:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
[X] TrayFactory [PS Softlab/Hans L]

Does anyone know why this Data Execution Prevention message is shown?

Thank you, Mark.

First, let me say that the more advanced article is beyond my understanding.
I do not have the basic Windows knowledge that is needed. For instance,
even if I could figure out a way to prevent invoking the DEP message, I would
not be sure if I should.

The less intimidating article mentioned that recently installed software
could be to blame. Well, I have installed updated nVidia drivers and
installed TaskPower from PC Mag Utilities, and I think that is it (i have
updated some apps, of course, but ...).

Now, I don't know exactly how to go about finding out what is causing the
error message. Perhaps it is not so terrible, if it only happens when I
install updates of IntelliPoint?

Any further comments?

You should not worry that it is beyond you ability to handle this. It's just
some error in the software (Intellipoint) you are trying to use. I would say
that Windows has plenty of stuff built-in to handle what Intellipoint
software also does. I would not use it, and see how well your system does
without it.

Well, I have a five-button mouse that needs the MS IntelliPoint to be
programmed (I think).
