is there a way to recover data that was encrypted on one
xp os and then accessed on a new xp install using a diff.
key and cd, the data was from the old install and on a
separate hdd...someone help...these are important docs.

Unless the encryption 'certificates' were backed up and can be restored,
the data is totally irretrievable. that encryption is strong
