Data base of all installed files

Does windows keep a data base of all installed files and what package
they belong to? If so, how does one access it.

If not, does anyone know of an aftermarket tool that can do that?

Or in short, is there some way to track down an individual files
originating installation package?

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer and go to Tools - Folder Options - File
Types.

Right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties sometimes yields
identifying information.
