I am installing stock trading software. I have updated
the mdac and jet 4.0 files but still can't get to data
base to load. Get message "data engine initialization
failed." Any clues?

Since you don't tell us the name of the software, it will be hard to get
input from anyone else using it. The best thing for you would be to
contact the program mftr.'s tech support.
