Dark capture

I recently purchased a Panasonic PV-GS19 camcorder to carry around for
impromptu recording. It's an inexpensive machine, but fills the need
when I don't want to lug around my heavier JVC. Playing back a tape and
viewing on the LCD screen, or playing back through a TV using the A/V
jack, produces a very nice picture quality. Using MM or other
capture/edit programs, the captured pictures are VERY dark. I'm
currently usin USB for transfer because the IEEE1394 receptical in the
camcorder is defective. {Camcorder is going out for warranty repair
after the holidays.)

I can brighten the pics in MM or other programs, but this results in
"washed out" looking videos that aren't worth recording to a DVD. After
all that, my question is whether this is a typical result using USB, or
is there something I can do to improve the situation? MJPG @ 15.000 is
the only setting that's available.

TIA,

Jim

The response is actually quite simple.
Capture with firewire and the problem will "probably" go away.
