Damaged Directory Structure

My system folders have become corrupted and unaccessable.
When I try to access any of my old folders, I get the
following message "C:\"Folder Name" is not accessable This
folder was moved or removed." It appears that my directory
structure is damaged, and Windows "CHKDSK /F" will not
make the necessary corrections. But, I was able to access
and extract folder data using a third party utility (PC
Inspector File Recovery), however, I cannot remove
original folders that are now occuping and taking up a
great deal of disk space. i Have a Windows 2000
Professional operating system. Please advice or help me
remove these folders.

You could try invoking the Windows Recovery Console and
attempt to run fixboot and fixmbr.

Steps:

1. Insert win2k CD into a bootable CD-ROM drive and Reboot.
2. When a message appears saying "Boot from CD..." press
the space bar button.
3. When you get to the Windows Setup screen, press the 'R'
key to select repair.
4. On the next screen, press the 'C' key to enter the
Recovery Console.
5. Choose the windows installation by pressing the
appropriate number key and hit enter.
6. Type in the Administrator password of the computer.
7. At this point you are at the Recovery Console command
prompt.
8. Follow the steps under "Available Commands" header at

Here are some examples:
chkdsk c: /p /r
fixboot c:
fixmbr \device\harddisk0

Note: if you use the /r option in chkdsk, it is very
thorough and takes a long time to complete, depending on
how big your hard drive is.
