|||| I'm assuming you're referring to the Places Bar in Office. What
|||| version of Office/Word do you have? Places should appear in both Open
|||| and Save dialogs, but note that these two dialogs can be independently
|||| sized. If you have one sized larger than the other, and especially if
|||| you have not switched from Large to Small Icons, it may just be that
|||| some of the Places shortcuts are not being displayed. Do you have an
|||| arrow at the bottom of the Places Bar?

||||| use often. I had several of these shortcuts and they worked

||| I have Microsoft Office Windows 2003. I am not referring to the
||| "Places Bar". I want to be able to open a file that has several file
||| folder shortcuts and from there "jump to" the directory the shortcut
||| points to. The problem occurs for any program, not just Microsoft
||| Office. I suspect it has to to with the console opened by the
||| "gpedit.msc". Basically, before I had Windows XP installed I could
||| "Save As" and open a sub-directory of My Documents that had a series
||| of file folder shortcuts in it that would permit me to "jump" to the
||| directory I wanted to save the document in because I had so arranged
||| this special sub-directory of My documents. Now. whenever I try to
||| save any document of any program, the file folder shortcuts do not
||| appear. When I open the files to "explore" them the file folder
||| shortcuts are there and I am able to "jump" to them. This is helpful
||| when opening a document buried deeply within my file structuire, but
||| useless when trying to save a file because the file folder shortcuts
||| are invisible. How can I make the file folder shortcuts appear when I

|| Look at the "Files of type" dropdown at the bottom of the dialog. That

|| filters the kinds of files that are shown in the list. While the list
|| always
|| contains real subfolders under the current folder, shortcuts are really
|| .lnk
|| files and not folders.

|| The only "Files of type" setting that allows .lnk files to appear in the
|| list is "All files (*.*)".

|| When the list is sorted by name, the links appear alphabetically among
|| the
|| files, not among the folders at the top of the list. When the list (in
|| Details
|| view) is sorted by Type, they appear with a type of "Shortcut".

| Thanks for the help. If I understand you correctly, there are a couple
| of problems. First when using Microsoft Word (or any other program)
| and "saving as", I always used to see those *.lnk files because that
| is all that is in my "JumpTo!" directory. When I save a Microsoft Word
| document, the "File-Save As..." provides a dialog box with the option
| at the bottom to "Save as type:". Before I reinstalled the links
| always were there even though they are really not files; they did
| appear and direct me to the folders they "point" at. Now, not only do
| they not appear, but there is no "All files (*.*)" option in the
| Microsoft Word list of options. Something has to be askew that these
| links do not even appear because before re-installation of Windows XP,
| they were always there. If the dialog box "Save as type:" at the
| bottom of the save as window is not what you are talking about perhaps
| I do not understand. I would still like some help on this as I use
| this "JumpTo!" save option frequently. Thanks.

I've been watching this discussion with interest and looking as the 'save
as' dialogue box and if you grab the right bottom edge and make the box
bigger, then you can use the 'Tools' pulldown in the same window to add the
selected file or folder to the 'Places' Bar. Could this be the solution the
OP is looking for??
