D and E drive accessibility

When I put a CD into either drive, e.g., an installation
disk for a new printer, the disk does not automatically
open, and if I try to manually open it, I get the error
message, "D:\ drive is inaccessible. Incorrect function."
Audio disks will play thru Musicmatch fine. What's wrong?
