Help something wrong with D drive

C

Casey

I have Win.XP SP2. I have a DVD/RW (D) drive (or did have) , now it says
when I open my computer "InCD" which is something to do with Nero. I also
have a DVD E drive (burner). My problem is what has happened to my D drive
it won't read or play anything now, I tried to back up my docs, and I
usually just go to win.explorer, choose what I want to back up to disk and
click "send to D drive" but it has InCD there now. I opened Nero and thought
I was doing a back up from there then, but my D drive doesn't read anything
now. E Drive will and my docs is on the CD RW, that's the first time I
decided to use a RW too to back up stuff, as thought I could erase it later
to do a new back up later. I don't know what I've done but I am upset
because my D drive isn't working, and I don't see it in My Computer. I am
new to all this so any not too technical advice would be appreciated. thank
you for any help in getting rid of InCD, or whatever it is I have done.
Casey.

Take it easy...
What kind of device does Windows say your D drive is.
What kind of device does Windows say your E drive is
InCD is the component of Nero which actually does the writing
Installing Nero is supposed to have disabled the "send to D drive".
Instead, you drag and drop to whichever device InCD controls
The only drive letter which is special is C. There is no reason to get
attached to D when in fact your burner is now known as E.

Thanks for responding Jim,
When I look at "my computer" it has drive C
then InCD (D) that used to say DVD/RW (D) I want that back.
then DVD-RAM drive E, I'm not even sure if that has changed.

I don't want that InCD thing, I'm sure that's just appeared. Now I can't
play anything or read anything on my D drive. Nero came with the LG DVD
burner that I bought months ago and I've never had a problem with my D drive
before this.

I put some photos onto a disk yesterday and I was able to play them back,
but nothing now.
However, I just tried to burn a music CD (that I didn't need to) in that D
drive and it worked but won't play back. I have to put everything into the
DVD burner to read anything.
Casey.

I think you can remove InCD by going to Control Panel>Add Remove Programs
and select Nero to uninstall. It should allow you to select which
components to uninstall and not just the whole thing. If you think it might
be wanting to remove all of Nero, cancel out and check the Nero help. I
haven't used Nero in several months, so I am trying to help from memory.

Casey

I can see InCD in Add remove and Nero is listed separately, but if I remove
it from there do you think my DVD/RW (D) drive will come back.

Remove InCD and reboot. Should work unless some registry entry is left
behind (which I doubt).

I tried another CD in the D drive and then the tray wouldn't open, so I used
a pin to open it in that little hole thingie. Now the tray is just stuck out
and when I press the button to close it does nothing. I have left it out. I
could push it in manually but afraid I may break something. Incidental, now
under my computer instead of InCd I see CD drive (D). should still be
DVD/RW CD (D).
I'm getting so frustrated maybe gremlins in my puter. Help!!!
