Cyclic Redundancy Check????????

Trying to install WinXP-Home . Reformatted hard drive with XP Home.
After about an hour of "installing" I get the message
"Fatal Error, one of the components needs to continue setup could not be
installed.
Data Error ( cyclic redundancy check)
If you are installing from a CD there maybe a problem with the disc.Clean
disc or
use another disc. "

Have tried the "repair" twice didn't work keeps asking for a password?

How do I contact Microsoft about getting another disc?
I do not get the same choices as I got the first time I put the CD in as a
boot disc
how can I get to reformatting the HD from the CD now that part of WinXP is
there?
Thanks
Xeno

Hi

If you have tried cleaning the disk without any luck, try here:

"How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware"

A CRC always indicates a serious problem with your hard
disk or hard disk controller. Download & run the free
diagnostic program that your hard disk manufacturer
makes available on his web site.
