I purchased an ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe MB have 2 Hitachi SATA HD's on the intel
ICHR6 one as the master and one as the slave. In the BIOS I still has them
configured as IDE which is the default setting. I bought OEM windows XP
which includes SP2. Windows formatted one of the HDs and went all the way
through the preparing to install process and when it got to the installing
process I got this error:

Istall Failed: D:\1386\asms.
Error Message: Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check).
Fatal Error: One of the components windows needs to continue to setup could
not be installed.
Data Error: (Cyclical Redundancy Check)

Hitachi.com says the HD's don't need drivers? And I can't find any to
download.

Please help?????

Well, youre confused and hitachi must have the cleaning lady answering the
phones.....1st,thier is no slave and master on SATA drives in a RAID
configura-
tion,i believe thats what youre trying for...2nd,format both drives,xp
recovery
can do that,or mfg utility,once formatted,configure a RAID array,you'll
need to
adjust in BIOS,you'll get a 2nd BIOS menu to do this in if configured
right,once
done, you'll need the drivers for intels ICHR6,get those at
intel,downloads,chipset
software, you'll use version 4.7 i believe, and the floppy downloads are
listed.Then
boot to xp cd,press F6,use the floppy drivers, press s,once you agree to use
the
floppy drivers, you can continue on and install xp.If you have problems,go to:
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-010695.htm

I changed the bios settings to configure the satas as raid. Enabled the
onboard SATA Boot rom. Restarted entered the raid config bios and formed a
Raid 0 Volume containing the two 80 GB hard Drives. Next I rebooted with the
XP CD and hit the F6 and installed the ICHR6 and windows went on and
formatted the rAID volume and it showed up as 1 157GB drive. Goes thru the
preparing to set up process and gets all the way down to installing windows
and I still get the Cyclic Redundancy Error. D:\1386\asms. It still says
One of the components windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.
It also says if you are installing from a CD there may be a problem with
the disc, try cleaning it or try another disc.

Please someone help. Is it a bad disc or HD, or something in the BIOS????????

Sounds like CD - make sure when it it gong through that it is not failing on
ANY copies of the files to the disk - if so, the media maybe bad or your CD
/ DVD readerneeds cleaning...
