Cutting Out part of movie and inserting another movie

HI,

I have a 4.22 gig movie I'm working on and want to cut out a portion of it.
Not sure how to do this. Also, I want to insert another movie piece in place
of the part I cut out. Can I do this and if so how?? The two pieces are
mpg's. Already have one on the time line. Also have another problem: When I
tried to "combine" two contiguous clips, the program crashes. I only have 1 ½
gigs memory. This could be the problem. Don't know. Was trying to combine the
clips because the section I want to cut out is divided in the two clips. If I
combine them, it would make it easier to "cut" the section I want out. I
think??LOL

Any ideas? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Paft of the problem could be incompatible

The following info about splitting clips was
written for Movie Maker 2.1 but should still
be useful in Movie Maker 6.

"Splitting A Clip In MM2.1"

Drag the video/audio clip to the
Timeline.

Play the video/audio by clicking the
"Play" button under the view screen.

You will see the Playback Indicator
(vertical line) advancing across the
timeline.

Click the "Pause" button at the point
where you wish to trim and type...
Ctrl+L or click the "Split" button at the
bottom of the view screen.
(you can also make adjustments by
dragging the Playback Indicator)

Make as many splits as you want and
remove the unwanted clips by right
click / delete.

Also you can insert a different clip
anywhere you like by creating a split at
that point and drop in the new segment.
