Cut Paste Type doesn't assume size/font in existing box

I'm cutting and pasting type from one PowerPoint document to another. When I
cut type from a document that's in 10 pt arial, and paste it into a type box
in the other PP document that has 8 pt arial, it comes in as 24 pt times.

How can I make it take on the 8pt arial type?

This is really annoying. Thanks for any help!

What version of PowerPoint are you using?

If you are using 2002, 2003, then the text assumes the default text style
(as defined in your template) unless you tell it differently using a smart
tag to specify use source formatting.

Smart Tag?????

I'm using 2003.

I'll check my documents, because sometimes it does take on the existing,
sometimes not. Thanks!

But, what are these "smart tags" you speak of ? This is the first I've heard
of them . . . I'm intrigued . . . .

Go to Tools > Options > Edit and be sure that you have "Show Paste Options
buttons" checked. Now, copy and paste some text from another document and
you'll see an icon (smart tag) at the lower right corner of the pasted text.
Click on it and you'll see the options available.
