"customize current view" for inbox won't stay customized

I have multiple folders and multiple inboxes for my Outlook 2007. I had
everything customized just the way I like it with to, from, email account,
etc. and NO blasted reading pane. Then last Friday, for reasons unbeknownst
to me, all the folders reset themselves back to factory settings in the
middle of the day.

I immediately re-customized every folder and got rid of that damned reading
pane everywhere, but for some reason, the main INBOX won't stay customized.
If I click to one of the other sub-inboxes and back to the main one, it
always resets itself back to square one.

I've tried changing the view back the way I like it from every way
possible... (for instance the reading pane can be removed through right
clicking at the line next to it, or go to the view menu, or go to "customize
current view" other options tab) and yet everytime I click to another folder
and back to the main one, it is all re-set back to the original factory view.

what am i doing wrong? anyone have any clues?

Did you reset the view before making changes? That is very important - you
need to remove any 'one-of' views. See
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/grouping.htm

Rather than changing the messages view, you could copy the view and
customize the copy - and use it. This reduces the chances of it being reset.
