Ctrl + commands don't work

Windows XP Home Edition, all patches and service packs applied. Virus
definition through McCaffee is up to date and using 2 spyware apps - Spybot
and AdAware.

In both Word Perfect and Word, Ctrl + A or Ctrl + C won't work. In fact,
none of the Ctrl commands work, including Ctrl + Alt + Del or Ctrl + End or
Home.

Both Office and Word Perfect have been reinstalled, the PC has been rebooted
and nothing works.

Has anyone seen this before? How did you fix it?

Have you tried the other cntl button?
