ctrl button not working

I have always used Ctrl+arrow to move from word to word. OR Ctrl+delete [or
backspace] to delete a word at a time.
Now it doesn't work. It also seems that I can no longer select multiple
items in Explorer or Excel [unless they are in a row and using SHIFT]! Pls
help

Sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tested with a different keyboard?

Thanks Suzanne - however I am on a laptop!
I feel it happened when I ran my hand across my keypad to wipe off some dust
- hence I think I may have pressed a combination of buttons!! This is really
annoying as I need to email a whole lot of documents, but can't highlight the
combination I need!

Sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tested with a different keyboard?

On laptops there's sometimes a Fn button that changes the function of
certain keys. Could this be the issue?
