Cross References Don't Always Update

Hello,

I have found that in my documents the recommend method for updating cross
references doesn't work for me.

I'm using Word 2007, and the method I refer to is:
1) Select All (CTRL+a)
2) Update (F9)

However, I found that if I select everything but the first line, it works.
If I do:
1) jump to end (CTRL+end)
2) select to begining (SHIFT+CTRL+home)
3) deslect the first line (SHIFT+down arrow)
4) Update (F9)

Then it works.

Whats on the first line? A table that show the company logo (image), the
document number, author's name, etc.

Has anyone else encounted this problem? Know how to resolve it?

I have more to add. I found the 'naughty' items that cause the breackage but
I don't know why. It seems like a defect with the product.

The table splits the top of the page. The right hand 50% of page is used for
the "image" cell and the left hand side of the page is split into to more
columns with data such as doc number template number, created by.

+----------------------------------------------+
| <image> | Doc No | #### |
| | Temp No| #### |
| | Author | foo |
+----------------------------------------------+

The problem is with the "image" cell. This has a drawing canvas in it, that
has auto shapes used to create the company logo.

It appears that having the drawing canvas in the table cell causes the
problem.

Snapshotted the page and saved the image as a bitmap, deleted the canvas and
then inserted the image, without canvas into the cell, and now it works.
