Ctrl+alt+delete

I am running Windows XP Professional. When I use to press Ctrl+alt+delete
(CAD) the menu with Shutdown, Standby, Hibernate, and Restart use to pop up.
Now when I press CAD I get the task manager. How can I revert back to the
original way of doing things (with it showing Shutdown, Standy, Hibernate,
and Restart when I press CAD)?

Hi

CAD starts the Task Manager in XP and not Shutdown etc.

That may be true. However, CAD use to allow me to see Shutdown etc. and not
the Task Manager.

Hi

CAD only opens the Task Manager in XP. It did in previous versions of
Windows, but XP is a completely different animal to those other versions.

Shutdown is a menu item on the TM dialog.

At work at use Windows XP Professional and CAD opens up the Shutdown,
Hibernate, etc. buttons not the Task Manager. And my home laptop use to do
the same before I changed some settings (don't remember which ones). But
whatever I did took away the Shutdown buttons and it also took away showing
my volume control on the screen.

By default, CAD opens the Shutdown screen in XP. Always has,
still does.

Hi LK2479,

Not sure if this is what you're looking for or not, but if you open the User
Accounts applet in Control Panel, click on the "Change the way users log on
or off" link under Pick a task, deselect Use the Welcome screen and then
click on Apply Options, when you use CAD it opens the menu with Lock
Computer, Log Off, Shutdown, etc. buttons. Also, if you deselect Use the
Welcome screen, when you start/restart your computer, you receive a security
dialogue box prior for logon, requiring you to key in a username and
password.

For the volume control, open the Sounds and Audio Devices applet in Control
Panel and select Place volume icon in the taskbar, Apply, OK.

I tried those options, and it wasn't what I use to receive. I use to get a
rectangular box...with the options Hibernate, Standby, Shutdown, and Restart.
No log in or log off button....when I pressed CTRL+ALT+DELETE. Someone at
work told me they got rid of this in an update of XP, I don't really know. I
just want my 4 buttons back as silly as it may sound.

Also with my volume control, it's in the taskbar...but it use to display on
my screen as well. Not the volume control box, but a little button that
indated how loud the volume was or it it was on mute.

Okay, well how do I get that back. I just pressed CAD to double check and it
brings up the Windows Task Manager. It did not use to do this.
