ctrl-alt-del task window missing parts

When I do ctrl-alt-del and get the task window up with all the processes I
don't get any tabs with it any more. In order to flop between the different
tabs (cpu usage etc.) I have to do ctrl-pgdn and since there is no close
button I have to go to the little cpu usage icon thing which appears near the
clock at the bottom of the screen and right-click it and select close from
there. Is there any way to fix this? I think it may have started when I was
closing things down one time which wasn't going well so I started ending
processes. After rebooting it began the strange behaviour.

Try double clicking the edge of Task Manager.

It's running in what's called "Small Footprint" mode. To toggle
back to regular mode, double-click its border.
