csccmd 1.1 error

Anyone come across this error when using the csccmd 1.1:

System error 31
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I am trying to extract files from the windows XP csc folder to another
folder. I have tried extracting from the csc folder that is still available
on the host machine. I've also made a copy of this CSC folder and tried to
extract from that copy, all to no avail. I've changed the rights of both CSC
folders so that everyone has full control, but this extract function just
doesnt seem to be working for me. Anyone experience this problem before or
have any thoughts as to how I can correct this error?

as far as syntax goes, I've tried:

1. csccmd /extract:\\server\c\csc /target:c:\recovered -(I shared the C
drive out)

2. csccmd /extract:\\server\csc /target:C:\recovered -(I shared the CSC
directory)

any thoughts and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

I got it by calling Microsoft Product Support Services. It tool me like 30
minutes and three phone calls to get it, but I eventually got it, for free
mind you.

this command worked for me

I had the same issue and spent hours on this... made copies of the CSC folder, checked that everyone had full access to the folders, even moving the folder to an online server with the /moveshare command. None of it worked. Then I came across a site that said to type this in:

csccmd /EXTRACT /RECURSE /TARGET:c:\csc-files

So that is exactly what I did and it extracted everything to c:\csc-files. I didn't even make that folder ahead of time.

I don't know why it wasn't working with the syntax you mentioned as that is what I read everywhere too. I'd try what's above and see if it'll work for you.

This is the site where I saw this: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/987328.htm
I didn't do any of the other steps though, just tried putting in that command line.
