csapi3t1.dll listed as unknown version

I was looking at the help/about in Outlook Express and
noticed that all the files listed have a version and a path
listed, but csapi3t1.dll is listed as unknown version and
the path is just the file name.

I am running Windows XP Pro OEM on a computer I assembled
with new parts and installed Office XP Pro student/teacher
immediately after getting the computer booted the first
time.
All patches and updates are current for Windows and Office.

The file csapi3t1.dll is listed as being used to spell-check
OE with Office 97. This computer has never had Office 97
installed. Spell-check works just fine.

Should I be concerned that this file has not version or path
listed?

Not only shuld you nat worry about it, you should go into
add/remove programs>add remove win components and take OE
off the list. Also, two things: Post new entries as new
entries, and don't waste others time with hypotheticals.

What the hell are you talking about... It is a new post and
it isn't hypothetical. And there is no reason to remove any
programs.

But thanks for letting me know that you can't spell.

Hi

Other programs use that file - you can see a list via the following link. If you use any of those other programs, and they are working properly, I don't see any need to worry.

Thanks for the reply and the link. Google returns the info
that it is a file used by OE to do spell-checking. But it
referred to Office 97. It seemed strange to me that a MS
file wouldn't show some version number, every other file in
the list (OE/Help/About) does.

I was just wondering if some hacker or virus had gotten a
file in on a rename and replace. It seems to be doing
spell-check just fine both WORD and OE, so I may just be too
concerned.

I did find it in program files/common files/... and it does
have a version number there that is correct for XP. The
older MS KB Google found says it is used for spell-checking
with Office 97. (That was also a question in my mind,)
I guess that for some unknown reason MS just doesn't bother
with inputting the version and path for this file.
I did see the list, bookmarked the dll search page too.
Thanks
Jim

Hi

It does seem strange that there is no version number. There
may be a copy of that file in the
%systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder - if so, does that
give a version number?

Did you see the list of files for csapi3t1.dll - it doesn't
list Outlook Express - but knowing me, I have mis-read the
purpose of that page!!
