I have had trouble with using the crossover cable with my
network. I can ping one computer, and it works, but if I
ping from the other computer, the packets are all lost.
Sometimes the network works correctly, and sometimes it
doesn't work at all. So, what are the proper settings for
my TCP/IP settings? And, should I start the computers in
a certain order?

Since PING involves a round-trip, if it works even one way, then
the hardware and low-level drivers are OK.

I'll bet on a firewall on one PC which is inhibiting responses
to PING (ICMP) requests.
