Cross-reference Equations

When I try to cross reference an equation, the equation is always included
with the reference. I cannot avoid this problem unless I insert the caption
before the equation. Is there any way to break the Equation from the numberd
citation when referencing in the text.

Put the equation and caption in separate cells of a two-column, single-row
borderless table.
