Critical Update KB890175 and KB890830

I recently received a automatic updates KB890175 and KB890830. Since
receiving those updates I have not been able to access web pages through my
normal means. Internet Explorer indicates it has located the requested site
and is waiting for a reply. It is then timed out. I contacted my ISP and
subsequently I am using using their proxy server to gain access to the net.
Is it just a coincidence my computer is acting strangely since downloading
the critical updates or do you think it may have something to do with them? I
remember sometime ago downloading a critical update which upset Internet
Explorer and there was a new patch released shortly afterward to fix the
critical update.

I also started having strange internet problems after this update after
it was applied to two XP PCs in my home. After my PCs are rebooted
they behave normally, but if they sit for a while, overnight for
example, I can't access any web pages via Internet Explorer. My
network does still work as I can successfully ping sites and get domain
name resolution, but IE can't load any pages until I restart.
I uninstalled this patch and the problem went away.

I have not seen any problems with the patches here. You may want to
uninstall them via the Control Panel > Add and remove Programs.
Thre is no patch available that corrects problems with these updates,
BTW.

It seems I was mistaken. I thought uninstalling those updates had
stopped this behavior, but it has returned. So, it seems it was not
the fault of the updates. I am still looking for a solution to this
problem.

i just had the same problem. only difference is when i removed
kb890175 using the add/remove programs, my problem was fixed. then i
went back to windows update and instead of just getting what it wanted
to send me, i clicked "details" and went into the knowledge base
article and manually selected the download for my operating system
(windows xp). worked fine after that.

if yours didn't work even after uninstalling it, you may have a
different problem.

good luck.
