Creative Zen V Plus recognition

Hi,

I've had a Creative Zen Plus for a year now, just chnaged over to Vista a
few weeks ago with a new PC. The problem is, I installed the player just
fine. I was able to transfer everything and Windows saw it and whatnot.
However, today, I plug it in and Vista tells me that "MTP Driver Installation
has failed. Please contact the device manufacturer for assistance. So I
did, Creative told me that it's a Vista issue.

I have not installed anything ground breaking in that time (a game or two,
but nothing driver related). I have tried uninstalling the driver, rebooting
and then letting it try to install it again to no avail. I'm at an impass.
I'm told that Vista has native support for this, so I shouldn't have any
issues. Am I missing something? Has a native driver gone corrupt? I really
can't reformat (HP doesn't give out recovery disks), so that is not a be all
end all option for me.

Any help is appreciated.

No, I did nothing of the sort. I tend to leave my bios alone unless
absolutly necessary to change/update it.

I'm having a similar problem - I have four players, including a Zen Stone
and a Sony Walkman (which is certified for Vista) that haven't worked in
Vista since October. I've even restored to factory mode - twice - and
applied the MS updates one by one with no luck. Have you tried renaming the
infcache1 file in the Windows\inf folder? That's worked for me in the past.

Yeah, I just tried that. Vista keeps saying I need permission.. but I"m
logged in as an admin. I know there is another admin account (the one HP
puts on the PC).. but I don't have access to it (won't show on the switch
users thing).

Thanks for all your help though! Doing something at least gave me hope. I
could try RMAing it.. but I doubt it'll work.. I can hope though. :)

I'm in the same boat. I got Vista to see the player by renaming the
INFCACHE1 file, and I can put music on it, but I can't see the music
that was on it pre-vista. Therefore my Sansa is full and I can't empty
it. On top of that, Sansa reccommended a firmware update which of course
failed.

I have used my sansa e280 and my son's e260 fine for a year and all of a
sudden, nothing happens when I plug it in. I have had issues with Rhapsody on
Vista, but never anything like this. Any advice?
