Creating fields in a template

G

Guest

Well, I've been a Word user for years and for the first time I have to create
a template. I've created the document and saved it as a template, but I need
to create some "auto-type" fields that you can click in and start typing (one
of those shadowed field boxes I've seen in some standard forms. I'm
embarrassed to say I've looked in MS Word Help under Creating Templates and
have done nothing more than confuse myself. When you guys quit laughing can
you give me a helping hand?

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. Before you get too far into this, though, you
may want to explore whether the macrobutton field will meet your needs. Once
you get how these work, they can be a lot simpler than online forms. See
http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/fields.htm#MacroButton and
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm for more
about macrobutton fields.

Hope this helps,
