creating different printer settings

A few years ago, I saw a very usefull method when printing a photograph in a
number of different ways.

Within the print dialogue box, the same printer was listed a number of
times, each with a different setting, such as for black and white, high res
or low res print etc

The idea being that there was a number of preset ways to print out the same
photo without changing the settings every time to make a print

How is this done?

thanks for reading

I doubt that current printer drivers and windows permit you to do this.
You can try renaming the printer in the start/settings/printer and faxes,
then install a new instance of the printer manually.
As I said, this usually does not work as it did in win 9x versions.

To answer the question a bit further--as it worked on my desktop (WinXP
SP1a+, not full SP-2)
Using an Epson R300 printer.
1. rename the printer from Epson R300 series to Epson R300, using
Start/Settings/Printers & FAX This will eventually be the default printer
setting.
2.Use Add printer & Fax to ad a new instance of the printer. Rename the
instance to Epson R300 Photo
3. In the printer driver windows, click on the port tab, and select the port
to virtual printer port Epson R300 USB0001
4. In speed and progress, disable the printer monitor.
5 Also disable the monitor in the first instance of the printer.
6 Set the printing options in each instance to your preference.

The printer mode may be changed by an application with unknown results.
The first instance of the printer shows two ports, LPT1 and the virtual port
mentioned above. The second only the virtual port.
I have no idea what happens with a third instance.

On my PC this works as far as printing the test page. Didn't try it with
applications to see how they behaved. (Too many different apps to fool
with.)

I am trying to accomplish the same task as well.

I have no problem adding another instance of the printer. But the new
instance doesn't allow a rename or changing of any of the settings.

Is this possibly because I am running SP2?

Thanks!!!

"Is this possibly because I am running SP2?"
I don't know. I'd say that, based upon my experience with SP1, that it's
quite likely.
