Creating a "Stamp"

Guest

I need to create a "stamp" that can be put on documents through Word. It
cannot be a bitmap, because I need to be able to update a date in it all the
time. My thought was to create a text box with the language of the stamp in
it with a fill-in field for the date. Does anyone have a better idea? Also,
I am hoping to be able to assign a macro to call up this stamp when I need
it, any thoughts on how to do that? Thanks for your help.

Look into AutoText rather than a macro.
When will you be using such a stamp? What do you want the date to reflect?
There are various date fields available, but none may meet your needs. See
http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the different
kinds of datefields and how to format them.

I don't know if auto text will work ... I need three separate lines of text,
with the date the document is finalized in the middle. The other two lines
of text do not change and it needs to be on right hand side of the page
without move the text on the left (there is blank space on the right where
the "stamp" will fit.

Autotext entries can contain fields, graphics etc., so would be a simple way
of adding a formatted entry. If you need the text boxed, I would avoid the
use of a text box. A frame or table are the better methods.

You could make a simple frame with your two lines of fixed text. Put a
macrobutton field between those lines, centered, with a prompt to type the
date, or one of the fields such as savedate. See
http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/fields.htm#MacroButton and
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm for more
about macrobutton fields.

You could even use a Date Field if you would remember to unlink it afte your
inserted.

Then save that frame as an AutoText entry.

If you don't need to wrap text around your stamp, you could simply have a
specially formatted paragraph with your text. If you need it boxed, you
could put a border around the paragraph.
