I have one of the 2 XP computers working so that using the bigpond
software I can use the cable modem connection. Ideally i would choose
to remove the bigpond software and be able to logon one or two of the
computers at any time. I have heard of someone who has done this.

I ask for a sequence of steps to the above objective. Till two months
ago i did not know what networking could do.

You need a router. Normally you don't need any software for a cable
Internet connection, but you should check on your ISP's website just in
case they do something odd.
