For some reason I seem to get this error alot when trying
to install games. I have asked many people what it is and
no one seem to know. I was hopeing that there was someone
out there that might be able to help me out. It get
really frustrating at times. From my test I have a
feeling that it is caused by my sound card (SB Live).
When you install the SB Live drivers some of them are
CRC. I am not sure if changing to a different sound card
would help and I am not even sure what are some of the
better sound cards other then Soundblaster.

Thanks for any help

CRC = Cyclic Redundancy Check. It's a method of error checking between
data source and destination to make sure the data was transmitted
accurately. In your case it is caused by the data not passing CRC after
it is written from (I presume) CDROM to hard disk. Since you mention it
happened when installing your SB Live software as well as several games
I would suspect the problem lies with the CDROM drive or it's cabling to
the motherboard. It may be something as simple as the CDROM drive being
dirty. It could also be scratched or dirty CDROM discs, but since it is
happening with several discs it seems to indicate the CDROM drive system.

It has nothing to do with your SB Live soundcard, though.
