CRC Error and Corrupted Discs

Hi, my problem is this, whenever I try to install any
software from my Cd-RW or DVD-Rom drive I get told that
either a CRC error has occured, my installation media is
corrupted or that I have too little disk space free for
the swap file(most definetly untrue because I have an
80Gb hard drive and have only recently reformatted it). I
have tried running each device on it's own but the same
messages are recieved. Also what few pieces of software I
can install properly run perfectly afterwards. I am
pretty sure that the discs are not corrupted since I have
used them before until quite recently (tuesday infact,
when I had Windows ME installed, however I did get a
similar message occasionally, but since then I have had
to reformat my hard drive) I am running an up to date
copy of XP Pro, with admin access and have (I think) the
latest drivers for the devices in question. Could it be
that my drives are damaged, maybe something to do with XP
or another piece of software or perhaps my IDE cable or
even my secondary IDE controller have bit the dust. Any
assistance would be most appreciated.

It could be that when installing that bit of software it
failed, and its created in the registry as a bad file,
giing you that error, I know this works for hardware
installs, and i think it also follows on software
search google for the exact error msg and also read the
event viewer in the control panel, admin tools setion.

Thanks I'll give it a try, however I've now found that
just doing something else at the time I'm trying to
install something like look at a webpage or just type
total rubbish into a word processor actually stops it
giving me this message. This has left me even more
confused.
