crazy xp install

A few days ago my cousin went to my house to use my computer, then we had a power failure that shutdown my pc. I wasnt there when it happen, but he said the damn thing wont come on after that. He restarted the computer again and he followed what it said in the boot up screen. My problem now is that, Im getting a lot of hell from my pc. First thing, everytime I turn on my computer there is a screen that comes up asking me which OS I want to use. Both are XP os. When I pick the first one, it actually starts but it also causes a problem when Im already log in. I cant access some of my files. I try to checking the add/remove programs to see if there are 2 os that was installed, but everytime I click on it nothing happens.I cant run it at all. And also a message keeps poppin up saying "files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognize version." I didnt buy Win Xp, it was already intalled on the computer that I bought and it came w/ a cd from the manufacture
When I pick the second xp on the boot up screen, it just freezes.
So what can I do to fix this problem.

It would appear a second winxp has been installed - by yr cousin -
See help, system file checker - to recover sys files.
The o/s wont be shown on Add Remove screen
Your Firewall is enabled?
You have a current AV app?
Youve installed critical updates?

I just got feed up w/ that stupid sh**, so I just wiped out my hard drive and started all over from scratch.Thankfully I manage to salvage a lot of things that I really needed.
