Crazy screen on start-up

When starting up, my desktop is now white, with icons scattered about it.
Also as I move the mouse, all icons black out for a second or 2, I mean they
actually turn black. When I go to desktop properties and try to change it,
nothing happens. I've been using the traditional screen for years, and can't
get any thing that even approaches it, can't put my favorite background up or
anything. I know I got naled with a virus, had to remove a # of files that
were loaded today. Some of them were Intmon.exe, intmonp.exe, popuper.exe,
intell32.exe, msole32.exe. I went into the registry and removed the callups
from the 'run' segment. Computer seems to be acting poor but working, and
the desktop still flickers everytime the mouse is run over it. Ran Stinger
immediately, ad-aware and spybot. No detetions, no hits. Any help?

I would consider the following:

Boot in Safe Mode (pressing F8 a few times while booting).
Note: Preferably with System Restore tuned off before you exit Normal boot.

Do another scan to ensure you have no more viruses. Oh by the way, it may
turn out that your problem goes away, or is less problematic in Safe Mode.

Now boot in Normal Mode.

If still no joy, consider getting out your Windows XP installation CD and
run System File Checker.

Start > Run and type
sfc /scannow
click OK

If you do not have the CD, or if this does not a fix, then try
uninstalling/reinstalling your display drivers.

OR

If you *do* have the CD and still no fix, you may have to do a Repair
Installation.
