I have updated the bios and drivers. I even installed a new video card.
Temperatures are fine and stable. Even ran a memory test thinking it might
be ram related. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

What is painkiller.exe are you trying to use a noCD crack, is it always the
same file on various games.???
Jut another thought, do the games require direct9.0c and have you installed
it.

Patti,

Thank you for the quick response! I have installed the latest patches for
three different games (Painkiller, Far Cry, Sacred), yet I have the same
crash to desktop (with the message "xxx has encountered a problem and needs
to close") with each one. I don't have unnecessary background applications
running and I've done spyware and virus scans. I've tried everything I can
think of. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

I am not using any noCD cracks. For the game Painkiller, the faulting
application is painkiller.exe, for Sacred it is sacred.exe, etc. Sorry I
wasn't more clear on that.

I have directx 9.0c installed and ran dxdiag and everything looks normal.

The only other thing I can think of is sound settings, do you use 3D
surround sound within windows and the games cannot handle that. I think I'd
agree with Patti perhaps a gaming newsgroup could help you more.

No, I don't use the 3D sound. I've even disabled onboard sound just to see
if that was causing a problem.

I now have a new problem. I just had a blue screen while running Spybot:

Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing...

xxx STOP: 0x0000008E....

xxx win32k.sys - Address BF8037B6...

Any ideas what caused this?
