Crashes constantly...

I have a Averatec laptop, it came with windows XP. Starting last night, was
having some stability issues, and I shut it down, but now whenever I start it
back up in ANY mode, (safe, normal, LKGC), it breifly shows the BSOD right
when it would change to the logon screen and then dies.
 
Sounds like corrupted files on the hard drive. I ran into this recently on a
Toshiba laptop.

I ran a couple freebie drive repair utils, and a couple not-quite-free but
very low cost.

I ended up using last known good configuration which solved my problems.
This happened after a software install.
