Crash following 7 Win Updates

Hi all --

During install recommended 6 Win updates + 1 nVidia my machine crashed, leaving me with black
screens; cursor blinking top left, as in good old DOS-days ;-))

Restart in Safe Mode no joy; screns stayed black; no action anywhere
Restart Safe Mode using System Recovery option: same result
Again Restart Safe Mode > selected Option 1; Win started in Safe Mode ; then selected Windows System
Restore Point that I had deliberately made prior to update
System ran OK again as before; only flaw: Icons on Task Bar were astray, had to be rearranged

What is the matter with these Updates?
Do you have a similar experience?
Could it be just one of them like nVidia causing the malfunction?
Should I now wait for the final SP1?

Looking forward to your suggestions,

From what I have experienced your problem is the nVidia update. I avoid
updating any component drivers that already function properly.
It's a hassle but try without the nVidia and I'm sure you'll be Ok with the
system.

Do *nºt* get hardware updates from the Windows/Microsoft updates web page
unless your hardware happens to be Microsoft manufªcturered... Always get the
hardware drivers (when you need them) from the actual manufacturer of said
prºduct.

Thanks will do - thought it strange that MS is meddling with 3d partydrivers...

In fact, I just checked and found the first update KB 905866 WAS installed; the rest NOT.

Does that imply anythjing with respect to the crash?

You're so right.
I will gaive it another go with JUST the MS Updates.

Why should MS worry about 3d partydrivers anyway?
Do they own nVidia?
Ciao,

Maria
