I recently did a clean-install of WIN XP Pro to a different drive on my old
WIN 2K computer. Now, in WIN XP, the system doesn't access my CD writer.
It is the only CD-drive on the machine so I need it. The drive displays in
My Computer as drive F but it can't be accessed. I can put a CD in the
drive, as the drawer does open and close, and I can hear it rev up, but it
can't be read. I have checked the connections and the ribbon is securely
seated, as near as I can tell. I have even used a different connector on
the ribbon.
Lastly, the CD-drive doesn't show in Device Manager.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That is, of course, 'CD-RW' for the subject. I hate typos!

I took that CDgone.zip; it didn't solve the problem -- I still can't read
the CD-F-drive. When I insert a CD, the drive is definitely erceiving it
and driving up because I can hear it and see on the screen the little
CD-hourglass cursor, but the drive never appears in 'my computer.' It
doesn't get read at all and I can't access it at all.
