Hi,

If anybody can advise I would be very grateful, when listening to music
online, if I open even the smallest of Word documents when listening to the
music the CPU usage goes up to 100%, and as you will imagine the online
music becomes distorted, this is happening on a regular basis.

However the main question why should this suddenly how happen, as the
Windows XP PC is a reasonable spec, and has coped very well with
applications in the past, and I have not downloaded any freeware or
installed any additional software recently.

Thanks,

Go to www.sysinternals.com and download the free Process Explorer. Along
with the many other features, it will tell you, in real time, what processes
(including background) are using your cpu cycles and the % by each. You
should be able to track down the processor hog in short order. A very nice
feature of PE is that it keeps a running graph of cpu usage (for about 5
minutes or so and you need only place your pointer over a 'spike' in the
graph and it will show you what is using the processor).
Heirloom, old and got my cable fixed....back
to 5 Meg....yay!
