CPU SHUTS OFF

I HAVE MICROSOFT XP ON A INTEL CELERON CPU. MY CPU JUST SHUTS OFF WHILE I'M
IN THE MIDDLE OF USING IT. MAYBE MY BIOS POWER MANAGEMENT SETTINGS ARE WRONG.
WHAT SHOULD THEY BE?

You might also have a faulty power supply or a failing processor fan.. I
would suggest that you get both checked out..

I had a laptop that would occasionally do that. It was due to
processor temperature. I cleaned the fan assembly and heatsink and it
worked fine again.

On the other hand, it may overheat because you type everything in
upper case. That takes more power.

I'm also having this problem since the september windows update though if I
run it in safe mode, it doesn't do it. Any other mode, and it shuts off
randomly.

Do you have an ATI Radeon 9700 series graphic card by chance? My laptop does
and wonder if that might be a common factor??

Same problem here! We had to stop using that machine due to the frequent
interuptions. The power supply has been checked and also the processor fan. I
am using an ATI Radeon card. Not sure of the series number at the moment.

Please use correct nomenclature. I believe you are referring to the
computer, not the CPU.

A central processing unit (CPU), or sometimes simply processor, is the
component in a digital computer that interprets instructions and
processes data contained in computer programs. CPUs provide the
fundamental digital computer trait of programmability, and are one of
the necessary components found in computers of any era, along with
primary storage and input/output facilities. A CPU that is
manufactured using integrated circuits is known as a microprocessor.
Since the mid-1970s, single-chip microprocessors have almost totally
replaced all other types of CPUs, and today the term "CPU" is usually
applied to some type of microprocessor.

The CPU in your computer was probably made by Intel or AMD.

Yeah, it's definitely a problem with the ATI drivers and windows updates. I
used msconfig to turn off all ati references during startup and can boot my
computer normally. It runs fine in vga mode though of course I cannot use my
video cards geforce/directx capabilites so cannot play games, run videos,
etc.

Haven't found an ATI driver that works yet. If anyone does, please give us a
link.

You need to turn Caps Lock OFF!
It's more likely that you have a hardware rather than a software problem.
The CPU cooling fan for instance, or the processor is overclocked.
If the whole computer turns itself off, all sorts of problems can cause a
shutdown. From a bad power supply, Bad motherboard, a plethora of other
problems, including malware.

Given what you did not say about your computer, I can only guess.
