cpu & ram compatibility

hi all
i have a msi 875p neo motherboard,which will support ddr 266/333 & 400 sdram
modules.
i have an intel p4 2.6 ghz 512k 800mhz fsb processor.
my question is,does it matter what speed ram i use?

Yes, performance will be better with the "400" (PC3200) memory. The
slower the memory the slower the system.

thanks for reply,
i should have been more specific,what i meant was,will the system actually
work with any of the different options of ram speed,or does a given
processor speed require a certain ram speed to function at all?

The processor will function with any speed RAM. The conversion between processor speed and RAM speed is handled by the motherboard chipset. The only problem might be if you reduce the memory bus speed and the multiplier stays the same then the processor will run slower.
